In the shift of a hoof that touched earth
too lightly to disturb it,
or thundered down;
a pulse that bruised the ground and
seared the air.
Remembering the first time I ran,
when the world was all edges and speed.
And now, the way dusk softens
everything, even an old body.

for me it was work, sweat, fear, muscle.
